Congratulations to Travis Harris, Newest Driver of Maverick’s “Salute” Veteran Tribute Truck

At Maverick Transportation, honoring our veterans is more than a tradition — it’s a commitment we take pride in. This year, we are thrilled to celebrate one of our own: Travis Harris, who has been selected to drive one of Maverick’s Salute Veteran Tribute Trucks. His story showcases his dedication, service, and leadership abilities, making this honor especially meaningful.

Travis has spent his entire trucking career with Maverick and during his tenure, he has earned multiple safety and performance awards including being named a 2025 Trainer of the Year Finalist and a Driver of the Month in 2023.

Before trucking, Travis served over 6 years in the U.S. Army’s Signal Corps. After completing his service, he went back to school and then worked for a communications company until their operations moved overseas. That transition brought him to a new opportunity and ultimately to a career he has grown to love.

When asked what he enjoys most about truck driving, Travis shares that he values freedom, the sense of responsibility, and the opportunity to meet new people in his professional driving career. He takes pride in the feeling of accomplishment that each day brings. One of the things he enjoys most is training new drivers. Travis has trained approximately 25 students and sees mentoring as one of the most rewarding aspects of his job. He loves getting to know each student — learning their backgrounds, hearing their goals, and playing a small part in helping them succeed. He describes moments like a recent phone call from one of his “copilots,” a former student who reached out feeling anxious. Travis walked him through it, like talking to an old friend, helping him get back on track. Those moments are what motivates him the most.

Being chosen to drive the Salute truck is an honor that carries deep meaning for Travis. He recalls seeing one of the Salute trucks for the first time when it was hauling The Wall That Heals in North Little Rock. During a break during CDL school at Maverick, he and others went to see it, and he took a picture, thinking how incredible it would be to drive it one day. Now, his dream has become a reality. To Travis, the significance goes far beyond the truck itself. He knows that veterans he may never meet will see it rolling down the highway and feel appreciated, recognized, and valued.

When asked if he has any advice for new drivers, Travis keeps it simple, “Take it slow and don’t rush. Your confidence and speed will come naturally with experience.”

We are incredibly proud of Travis Harris and are grateful for his service, both to our country and to the Maverick family. His leadership, humility, and commitment to others make him the perfect choice to represent the Salute Veteran Tribute Truck. Congratulations, Travis — and thank you for continuing to inspire us!
